Sons of Kemet XL - Live at Le Guess Who? 2018

Relive Sons of Kemet’s compelling performance at TivoliVredenburg during LGW18 with this first-time broadcast of the group’s show. Sax wizard Shabaka Hutchings and his band presented music from their Mercury Prize nominated LP ‘Your Queen Is A Reptile’, dedicated to black female icons.

The ensemble performed in a special ‘XL-version’, an extravaganza featuring four drummers to invigorate their groove, taking cues from Afro-Caribbean carnival to contemporary UK grime and hip hop. This is music played with punk drive, the immediacy of club music and riddled with jazz, dub and afrobeat.
