Musician Arnold De Boer (The Ex, Zea) often visits Bongo, a city in north Ghana, at the border with Burkina Faso. Here, locals organize “Man Power”: musical performances that bring them into contact with their ancestors. They reach hundreds of listeners with vocals, horns, kologos and traditional drums in performances which seems to have no end, leaving both musicians and audience in a state of trance.
In early 2019, photographer and filmmaker Nick Helderman, in collaboration with Welcome To The Village festival, joined De Boer to portray the activity of the local musicians King Ayisoba, Atamina and Ayune Suule.
